Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) honors outstanding electrical and computer engineering students who have excelled in scholarship, character, and leadership.

The academic requirements for membership are as follows: The top quarter of University of Florida juniors majoring in Electrical or Computer Engineering (3EG with a 3.75 GPA), the top third of University of Florida seniors majoring in Electrical or Computer Engineering (4EG or 5EG with a 3.53 GPA), or a graduate student (6EG-9EG) who has a 3.90 GPA. Undergraduate students must have successfully completed EEL 3111C. Qualified students will be contacted at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters.

Our chapter of HKN performs service functions to the benefit of both the faculty and students of the University of Florida. Such activities include “Evening with the Professors” get-togethers for students and staff, course guides to help students make an informed decision about the courses and professors that are right for them, department barbecues, and engineering fairs.

One becomes eligible for membership in this HKN chapter by meeting the GPA and coursework requirements outlined above. An eligible student then becomes an electee by paying his or her one-time $100 dues to the organization, which covers both the operating expenses of the chapter and entry into the national organization.

An electee becomes an official Epsilon Sigma Chapter member by completing one semester of participation in HKN meetings and service projects, such as the Evening with the Professors and one of our chapter’s current undertakings, the Internship Catalog. At the end of the semester an Induction Ceremony is performed, wherein the status of HKN membership is conferred upon eligible electees.
