Text: Microelectronic Circuits by Sedra and Smith

Review: EEL 3304

EEL 4306 is the second half of the Microelectronics sequence. It covers feedback analysis, analogmicroelectronics, op-amp applications, and digital circuits. There is a lab session included with this course. Dr. Fox rated extremely well with his students. Dr. Fox moved very quickly through the material, so it was very important to keep up. Fortunately, students were provided with notes so that note-taking was a minimum. Examples in class were good and helpful in test preparation. Many students commented that since Dr. Fox went through material so quickly it was difficult to copy down examples and follow along at the same time. In-class discussions did occur, if not frequently, and were generally helpful. The text was not bad, but was considered by most to be merely a reference source. Dr. Fox's lectures so overshadowed the information in the text that some foudn no use for the book. A few students commented that the text was too detailed and not well-organized. There were very few comments on the lab. Those students who did said that the lab was haphazard and a waste of time, more of an extension to the class than an actual lab. There were the usual comments about old and/or faulty equipment. The majority of students commenting on the lab felt that it needed to be reworked.
