Notes:

Taught by Dr. Karl Gugel, Digital Logic focuses on realization and construction of small and medium scale logic circuit design, as well as microprocessor usage. Gugel's lectures are very clearly explained and well prepared, and hold the interest of students. Compared with other professors, Gugel's lectures are much above average.

Discussions in-class occur frequently and are very informative. The course is moderately paced, which students consider a good speed. The class is time consuming, with long homework and lab work.

Students are hard-pressed to finish tests on time, and agree that much more emphasis is placed on understanding the material rather than memorization. The exams are considered to be graded fairly.

In general, students felt that they learned a lot from the class for the time that was invested.

For the lab, a kit is available at the beginning of the year. The kit is optional, but is virtually mandatory to get acceptable lab grades, as many of the labs take much longer than the time allowed in the lab itself. Also, the equipment in the lab is in VERY poor condition, so the kit helps to ensure the expected results from the constructed circuits.

Comments:

"Gugel gives very good, relevant examples, and is entertaining with good stories."
"Excellent!"
"Don’t get behind and make sure you find out how to do something if you don’t understand."
